Guyana: Police authorities in Regional Police Division 3 are conducting investigations of the reported murder of Deonarine Ramachandran. Ramchandran is a 29-year-old resident of Conservancy Dam, Canal #1 Polder, West Bank Demerara, Guyana.
The tragic murder happened on October 1, 2022, around 10:30 PM at the Conservancy Dam. The suspected culprit, a 17-year-old teen and his father, aged 58, are currently in police custody.
According to Preliminary investigations, Ramachandran and the 17-year-old suspect were drinking alcohol at the deceased’s house when the teen became intoxicated and started acting up.
The teenager picked up a knife and made many attempts to take his own life. The teen’s misbehaviour pushed the deceased to interfere by taking away the knife from him. 29 year old Ramachandran slapped the accused several times to calm him down, after which he ran out of the house furiously.
The teenager then returned to Ramachandran’s home while he was armed with a dagger. The now deceased 29-year-old man also armed himself with a similar weapon, approached the 17-year-old and tried to chop him but failed.
Following the altercation, the suspect ran towards the Conservancy Dam, where the 17-year-old persisted in using a series of threats and expletives directed toward Ramachandran.
The 29-year-old now deceased victim became annoyed and again confronted the teenager. During the confrontation, the teenager then ran away and went home, where his father, aged 58, also got involved.
Following this, a brawl occurred between Ramachandran and the suspect’s father. During the argument, the teenager armed himself with a knife and stabbed Ramcharan in the abdomen.
Ramachandran was seen by his relatives, who rushed him to the Georgetown Public Hospital in Guyana where he died while receiving medical assistance.
The dead body is currently at the mortuary of Georgetown Public Hospital, awaiting post-mortem.
Guyana Police authorities subsequently apprehended both suspects (the teen and his father) as investigations continued.
