Hurricane Maria has made landfall in Puerto Rico, near Yabucoa at approximately 6:15am AST as a Category Four hurricane.
The National Hurricane Centre has said that observations indicate that sustained winds of 60mph with gusts of up to 113mph have been reported at Yabucoa Harbour.
Water levels monitored by the National Ocean Service tide gauge in the harbour have reported the water level is more than 4 feet higher than the Mean Higher High Water (MHHW).
Residents have taken to social media to post footage of the hurricane as it ravages the island nation.

Flood warning for Puerto Rico
The National Weather Service San Juan has released a flood warning for parts of eastern Puerto Rico.
River levels are at a record high as Maria ravages the nation.
