St Kitts and Nevis Hosts National Conference to Advance School Nutrition Policy

The Ministry of Health is organizing a two-day National Conference on the topic of improving nutrition in schools. The conference is aimed towards starting a conversation on the importance of good nutrition for the people especially in the younger generation. 

The event is bringing together stakeholders from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Agriculture and other sectors of the country. The conference opened on Tuesday, February 10, 2025 in the attendance of several attendants from various Ministries, at the St Kitts Marriott Resort. 

The conference was hosted  under thew title, Towards a school nutrition policy. The conversation is part of the EUCan Project: Nourishing the Future Together. The discussion for ensuring the better nutrition of the youth of the nation will be taking place for two days. 

Experts from the spheres of health, agriculture, education and more in St Kitts and Nevis will make it a priority to bring the nation together on this matter. Together, these stakeholders will work on the creation of a comprehensive School Nutrition Policy. 

The mandate is part of the government’s efforts to improve the quality of life of the people in St Kitts and Nevis. The government of St Kitts and Nevis has been dedicated to ensuring that the youngsters have access to healthier food environments. 

The schools will be equipped with the resources to make sure that the students across the federation get access to healthy and good quality food. The government wants to make sure that they can promote a culture of wellness among the students of the country. 

The Ministries of Health, education and Agriculture shared several images from the conference on their social media. The event was opened with the addresses from the Deputy Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis Dr Geoffrey Hanley and the Minister of Agriculture, Samal Duggins. 

Both the Ministers reiterated their commitment to the welfare of the youngsters of the country. The initiative is backed by international partners and will be implemented in the country after thorough discussion with the relevant stakeholders across the island
