St Kitts and Nevis has honored centenarians on both the islands on the occasion of World Centenarian Day on May 29, 2026. The administration has shared that they honored three centenarians on St Kitts recognising their extraordinary lives. The senior citizens of the country have made significant contributions to the Federation and help it grow.
The ceremony consisted of commemorative visits to the centenarians homes organised by the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Ageing and Disabilities. These visits were also a part of ongoing efforts to recognise and celebrate the invaluable contributions of the nation’s older population.
The centenarians honoured on St Kitts were Edmund Morton who is 101 years old, Esther Harris who is 104 years old and Rupert Griffin who is 100 years old. On Nevis, the commemorative visits were organised by the Ministry of Health, Gender Affairs and Social Empowerment, NIA. The Ministry was working in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Ageing and Disability in St Kitts.
In Nevis, the six centenarians who were honored and appreciated as a part of the celebration included, The centenarians honoured on Nevis were106 years old Eliza Jeffers who was a resident of the Hamilton Estate, 102 year old Olga “Francis” Hicks-Jeffers, resident of Camps Village, 101 year old Evelyn Brown, resident of the Jessups Village, Legantine “Leontine” Clarke of Chicken Stone, 101 year old Geraldine Berry of Church Ground and 100 year old Ernestine Wilks of Camps 100 years old
The Governor-General of St Kitts and Nevis, Dame Marcella Liburd joined the commemoration in St Kitts. In Nevis, Hyleeta Liburd, Deputy Governor-General for Nevis joined Dame Liburd for the visits.
Minister of Youth Empowerment, Ageing and Disabilities, Isalean Phillip also joined the leaders in celebrating the remarkable lives, resilience, and legacy of the centenarians. Minister of Health, Gender Affairs and Social Empowerment in the NIA, Jahnel Nisbett joined the celebration in Nevis along with Junior Minister Phillip.
The initiative highlighted the St Kitts and Nevis government’s continued commitment to honouring older persons whose lives and experiences represent an important part of the Federation’s history and heritage.
