The government of St Kitts and Nevis has broken ground on the New Cruise Terminal Development Project at Port Zante. The groundbreaking ceremony was hosted by the St Christopher and Nevis Air and Sea Ports Authority.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by high level officials and members of the government. The officials have shared that the construction of the new cruise terminal will help in establishing St Kitts and Nevis as a leading destination for cruise tourism.
The construction of the facility will help in modernising the cruise infrastructure of the country.
The officials have shared that this is a very important development for the tourism infrastructure of the country. The government has confirmed that the new cruise terminal is being purpose built to support home porting operations which the nation will start in 2027.
The nation is ready to grow out of its role of being a port to call for the various cruise ships. With homeporting, the facility will enable passengers to begin and end their cruise vacations in St Kitts.
The officials have shared that the new terminal will also feature modern passenger processing, advanced security and baggage screening systems. The officials have shared that the terminal will also have access to enhanced immigration technology designed to deliver a seamless arrival and departure experience.
The Chief Executive Officer of the SCASPA Adeola Moore called the groundbreaking ceremony significant milestone for the country. She also added that SCASPA is working diligently on making sure that the nation is ready for developing itself for the growth of the tourism sector of the country.
The officials have shared that “This project reflects SCASPA’s commitment to investing in facilities that are modern, efficient, resilient, and future-ready.” CEO Moore said, “Once completed, the terminal will significantly enhance the guest arrival and departure experience.”
Minister Marsha Henderson also attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the terminal. The Minister said that the development represents a bold step in strengthening the country’s tourism product and long-term economic resilience.
According to the Minister, the project is more than just infrastructure investment, but an investment in the future of the country and its people.
The Prime Minister of the country, Dr Terrance Drew was also present at the groundbreaking ceremony. He took the time to laude not only the Ministry of Tourism but also the partners who have played such an important role in making this project possible also highlights that this project forms part of the government’s mandate to achieve economic transformation. The nation is making efforts to increase tourist arrival within the country.
Dr Drew said that at this time, it is crucial for them to also think about how to protect their borders. He added that at the same time of protecting the borders, they also have to make sure that they make the tourists experience at the airports in such a way that the reputatioon of the country grows positively.
The Prime Minister also said that all the stakeholders who are engaged in the tourism sector should be able to feel the impact of the investment that is being made.
