The government has signed a Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI) with the City of Hamburg for skill development of the St Kitts and Nevis workforce. The signing took place on Monday 29 July, 2026 during the International Sustainability Conference in Hamburg Germany.
On the behalf of the St. Kitts and Nevis government Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education signed the agreement with high level officials from the City of Hamburg. Through this agreement, City of Hamburg will provide the next generation workers of twin islands with the education, skills, training and insights on how to address environmental challenges.
The new international collaboration between both the countries also strengthens the workforce development in St. Kitts and Nevis. The officials shared that the Skill Partnership will provide an opportunity to both organizations to exchange knowledge and skills which will help in key sectors development for both the regions.
During the conference, the officials from both the countries discussed innovative knowledge exchange models which can be used as a blueprint for future international skills initiatives. The Deputy Prime Minister also addressed the international delegates during the conference.
In the conference, he mentioned that international collaboration is essential for the Small Island Developing States. He added that the new collaboration between the twin islands and Germany supports the Sustainable Island State Agenda of the government of St Kitts and Nevis.
Minister of Education, Dr. Geoffrey Hanley shared that the ministry is continuously working on improving the education system through expanding technical and vocational education including strengthening STEM education and equipping students with skills in renewable energy, digital innovation, healthcare and other sustainable industries.
In the International Sustainability Conference in Hamburg Dr. Joyelle Clarke, Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment, Climate Action and Constituency Empowerment and Alma Martin, Special Envoy to the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis accompanied the Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister, Dr. Geoffrey Hanley.
