Dr Terrance Drew visited the construction site of the Basseterre High School on July 1, 2026. While onsite, he was accompanying the Project Manager, Vivake Khan, who gave him the information about the progress of the ongoing work. 

The Prime Minister also confirmed that significant construction work is being done on the matter. He confirmed that local workers and technical experts actively engaged in the construction work. The officials have shared that they are seeing significant growth on advancing one of the Federation’s most significant education infrastructure projects.

The Basseterre High School Project has been one of the most important infrastructure project for the island. Dr Drew said that the purpose of the visit is to make sure that the people knew the progress of the construction. 

He shared that rumours were going around about the progress of the project when people were actively saying that  no work is being done. 

Prime Minister said, “I wanted people to see firsthand the tremendous amount of work that is taking place here. I believe people will be shocked by just how much progress has been made.”

The Prime Minister said that they are seeing significant workforce actively working on the project. He also said that the presence of this workforce is proof that the project is giving significant employment opportunities for the people. 

The Prime Minister also expanded upon employment opportunity for the people of the island, “We can see there are many local workers here, along with other experts, and we are pleased with the number of jobs that have been provided for our people,” he said. Dr Drew. He further added that the construction of the school is fulfilling a commitment of the administration which was made several years prior. 

Dr Terrance Drew said, “Once and for all, after many, many years, the Basseterre High School is being delivered by a Labour Government,”
