Samal Duggins, the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries & Marine Resources St. Kitts welcomed a delegation of the Taiwan Technical Mission on June 29. The Taiwan official who met with the Minister were part of the chicken layer breeder farm project assessment mission under the International Cooperation and Development Fund (Taiwan ICDF).
The official visit of the Taiwan delegation was aimed towards strengthening the partnership and productive discussion with St. Kitts and Nevis administration to advance the Federation’s Layer Poultry Sector. During the engagement both the Minister and ICDF officials analyzed the progress of the Layer Chicken Industry Sustainable Development project.
Through this initiative, the Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with the Taiwan Technical Mission is focusing on enhancing local egg production, national food security and reducing dependence on imported chicks through SPD.
The Taiwan delegation which visited the St. Kitts and Nevis for the courtesy call included, Team Leader of the TTM Roy Lo, Shin Tsai, Project Manager, and Dr.C,-H, Jiu Jiu Chou, Professor of the School of Veterinary Medicine.
During their visit to the twin island the Taiwan Officials also visited the Department’s Feed House in Bayford’s Hatchery. At the feed house Dr. Kofi Sylvester shared the overview of the operations and mentioned the importance of quality feed management as it plays a major role in supporting healthy and productive poultry. The tour of the Taiwan officials was conducted by the Project Coordinator Rohan Edmeade and he shared the progress of the hatchery’s operation.
Additionally, the glimpse of the meeting was shared by the both organizations online on their official social media pages. The St. Kitts Department of Agriculture stated that the federation values the longstanding partnership with Taiwan Technical Mission.
The Department of Agriculture mentioned that the St. Kitts and Nevis administration will continue their partnership with the Taiwan Technical Mission and work on improving agriculture, food security and strengthening the egg production chicken industry in the federation.
