SCASPA Celebrates Women in Maritime and Calls for Greater Gender Equality in the Industry

The St Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority is celebrating Women in Maritime on the occasion of International Day for Women in Maritime. The day, celebrated annually, highlights the importance of women workers in the maritime industry.

The first female CEO of the St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA), Adeola Moore has taken the opportunity to assert that women must have equal opportunities across all areas of the industry. The women, according to the CEO, must have the opportunity to work on ports, shipping, logistics, marine operations, and environmental management.

The International Day for Women in Maritime was observed under the theme “From Policy to Practice: Advancing Gender Equality for Maritime Excellence,” During the commemoration, Moore highlighted that the WiMAC SKN Interim Chapter is playing a very important role in growing the importance of women in Maritime. 

The officials have shared that the WiMAC is providing mentorship, technical training, advocacy, networking, and leadership development for women pursuing maritime careers. 

According to CEO Moore, inclusive growth and sustainable maritime development require deliberate investment in women.

Thema Ward also called for stronger collaboration among governments, private sector organizations, educational institutions, regional maritime bodies, and development partners to support initiatives that empower women in the maritime sector.

As a part of the 2026 commemoration of the International Day for Women in Maritime,  The Interim Chapter of WiMAC will participate in a regional WiMAC webinar with Nurul Fitrah, who is a part of the the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Gender Network. 

During the webinar, the attendants will discuss ways to advance gender equality and strengthen regional cooperation within the maritime industry.

The Interim Chapter of WiMAC St Kitts and Nevis has announced that they are committed to creating opportunities, fostering leadership, and increasing collaboration for women and girls in the maritime and blue economy sectors across St. Kitts and Nevis.

The CARICOM Secretariat also commemorated the International Day for Women in Maritime  and highlighted that across the region, women continue to shape the maritime sector
