The airline Air Canada has introduced a new flight for the winter tourism season and will launch seasonal nonstop weekly flights from Halifax to Barbados once in a week. The weekly flights will start operating on December 17, 2026.
Following this announcement Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc (BTMI) has taken an initiative of becoming an official sponsor of Halifax’s Blue Nose Marathon for the next three years. The main aim of providing sponsorship is to establish Barbados as a preferred travel destination among the masses and attract tourists from Atlantic Canada.
According to officials, through this step Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc is working on promoting and bringing attention to Barbados as a popular travel destination among the w. Moreover by sponsoring the event it will help in making the island visible to people as a vacation destination.
The Blue Nose Marathon is well known as “the people’s marathon” a running race held in Halifax, Canada. In the event everyone can participate including any ages, abilities and fitness level freaks and this year’s event will take place from 15 to 17 May 2026.
The Halifax’s Blue Nose Marathon is held every year during the weekend of Victoria Day which is a public holiday celebrated in Canada. According to reports, in the event Barbados will engage with thousands of supporters, runners, spectators in the marathon weekend. This presence of the tourism stakeholders will help in reflecting the island not just as a winter sun but as a year round getaway where tourists can experience adventure and culture together.
Eusi Skeete, Director for Canada at Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc mentioned the importance of the partnership for the island. He said, “ Canada remains one of our most important source markets, and Atlantic Canada continues to show strong interest in Barbados as a destination for meaningful, experience-led travel”.
Sherri Robbins, the Executive Director of Blue Nose Marathon also expressed gratitude to Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc for becoming the official partner of the event for the next three years. She stated, “ We are excited to welcome Barbados as the Official Destination partner of the Blue Nose Marathon for the next three years. This partnership brings together two vibrant communities that value wellness, culture, tourism, and connection.
