St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) and the St. Kitts and Nevis Trade & Labour Union came together to pay tribute to the fallen heroes of the Labour Movement. The wreath laying ceremony was hosted on Sunday, May 3, 2026.
The St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party and the St. Kitts and Nevis Trade & Labour Union honored the fallen leaders as a part of the Labour Weekend celebration. The officials have shared that it is important for the leaders to pay their tribute as they played a very important role in building the nation for what it stands as today.
The traditional pilgrimage is an annual occurrence with the leadership of the St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party visiting the graves of all the fallen heroes. The ceremony started with the present leaders of the Labour Movement visiting the grave of Owen Caines.
The wreath laying was led by the Deputy Leader of the St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party, Konris Maynard. He was accompanied by the other leaders of the St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party, including senior leader, Dr Denzil Douglas.
The first leader who was honored with wreaths, Owen Caines served the nation as a Trade Unionist and Legislator. He was laid to rest at the Dieppe Bay Swanston Memorial Methodist Cemetery.
Next, the leaders visited the grave of Charles E Mills who served the people of St Kitts and Nevis as the Cabinet Minister and Educator. He was laid to his rest at the St. Paul’s Parish Cemetery.
The leaders of St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party also visited the resting place of Clarence Fitzroy Bryant. He served as the Cabinet Minister, Educator and Lawyer and was laid to rest at the St. Peter’s Parish Cemetery.
The political leaders as well as the members of the Labour Union went to the Springfield Cemetery. The cemetery is home to the grave sites of Robert L Bradshaw, who was the first National Hero of the country. He was the first Premier of St Kitts and Nevis & Trade Unionist.
The cemetery also holds the graves of Lee L. Moore, E. St. John Payne, J. Fidel O’Flaherty, Joseph F. O’Flaherty Jr.
The leaders who received the tribute from the Ministers, members of the family and friends have played a critical role in developing the country. The members of the administration also laid wreaths on the graves of Probyn E. Inniss, Sir Cuthbert Montraville Sebastian, Joseph Nathaniel France, C A Paul Southwell, Edmund Wickham Lawrence, and Glen “Ghost” Phillip.
