Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew presented scholarships to 103 students from 8 high schools and primary schools in his constituency. The handover ceremony for the scholarships was hosted on Sunday.
The aim of the event was to acknowledge and honor the students for their dedication and hardwork during the academic year 2024-25. The students who have shown the most amount of improvement and those who have performed well were given the scholarships.
The scholarships were given to the students under the revamped Scholarship Awards Programme which was launched after a hiatus in the year 2023. The scholarship initiative was initially started in 2013 for the students across the island.
The handover ceremony was also attended by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Dr. Geoffrey Hanley. The officials from the Ministry and Department of Education were also part of the ceremony along with teachers, and parents.
During the ceremony, the Most Outstanding and Most Improved students received certificates and a monetary award. The recipients of the scholarship rewards were residents of St. Peter’s, Conaree, Keys, and Cayon/Ottley’s communities.
A committee had been set up for each of the districts to pick the deserving students.
The students who received the scholarship were studying in the following schools:
- Dean-Glasford Primary School
- Beach-Allen Primary School
- Cayon Primary School
- George Moody School
- Maurice-Hillier School
- Immaculate Conception Catholic School (ICCS)
- Basseterre High School (BHS)
- Washington Archibald High School (WAHS).
The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew has shared that he was honoured to present the scholarships to the students of his constituency. He highlighted that the scholarships will help the children in pursuing their goals in terms of their academic pursuits.
The Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew has thanked the guardians as well as parents who took time to accompany the children to this event. One of the students has received an award for three consecutive years and 12 students have recieved awards for two consecutive years.
