Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew met with the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) on Thursday. The new ambassador who arrived in St Kitts and Nevis on July 22, made a courtesy call to the Prime Minister.

During this courtesy call, the Ambassador Edward Ling-Wen Tao, and the Prime Minister discussed the long-standing relationship between St Kitts and Nevis and Taiwan. The Prime Minister took to his social media to share some glimpses from the event on their social media.

The Prime Minister said that it is important for the leadership of both the countries to work with each other and take their collaboration further. Taiwan is one of the first Nations in the world to formalize diplomatic ties with St Kitts and Nevis.

As the oldest allies to the twin island federation, Taiwan has helped St Kitts and Nevis in attaining several of their development goals. Taiwan’s support to St Kitts and Nevis extends in several sectors including healthcare, education, infrastructure et al.

The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis and the new ambassador of Republic of China Taiwan pledged to take this support forward. They have been working with each other for the mutual benefit of the two nations for almost four decades.

Under this arrangement, St Kitts and Nevis advocates for the inclusion of the Republic of China (Taiwan) on international platforms. Taiwan, in turn supports the development goals of the federation with the help of donations, funds, et al.

Taiwan is one of the strongest support systems for St Kitts and Nevis in meeting their Sustainable Island State Agenda. 

During the courtesy call, Dr Terrance Drew and Ambassador Edward Ling-Wen Tao, promised to work together with enhanced cooperation. They pledged to further their shared development goals, and strengthen the friendship between the two nations.

Prior to the Prime Minister, Ambassador Edward Ling-Wen Tao, met with the St Kitts and Nevis Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Denzil Douglas.
