Premier of Nevis Mark Brantley has questioned the results of the regional popularity polls after a poll conducted by Don Anderson highlighted the popularity of PLP. He has questioned the authenticity of the claims made by the polls, calling them inaccurate portrayal of public will, manipulated by money

The Premier of Nevis took to his social media to register his dissatisfaction with the political predictions which have been doing rounds on the internet. On Sunday, Premier Brantley highlighted that these polls are based on altered facts.

Mark Brantley highlighted that some factions of St Kitts and Nevis have been working on rewriting the political history and using these misrepresented facts in political polls. The Premier of Nevis has brought the attention of the people to the results of the last three general elections.

The Premier noted that during the 2015 polls, People Action Movement, Concerned Citizens Movement and People’s Labour Party came together to form the Unity Coalition Government. During these polls, PAM had secured four seats, SKNLP had three parliamentary seats to their name and CCM won 2 seats. NRP and PLP both had one seat in the parliament each.

PAM and CCM which had the highest number of seats in the Team Unity Coalition were the reason that PLP was in the government and that former Prime Minister Timothy Harris had the big seat.

During the next polls in 2020, PAM retained four seats, CCM gained one seat as compared to the previous polls. NRP and SKNLP both lost one seat each and PLP stood at two seats. Premier Mark Brantley noted that CCM and PAM were still responsible for securing the higher number of seats in the national assembly.

Yet again, the coalition government had decided to make People’s Labour Party the face of the Unity government. Premier Mark Brantley asserted that the statistics make it clear that the PAM and CCM were doing the heavy lifting in the government in terms of parliamentary representatives

The Premier has therefore questioned how the Peoples Labour Party can be the reason for the success of Team Unity. The Premier then also talked about the polls of 2022, where St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party secured a clear majority and ascended to the government.

The People’s Labour Party was able to secure a single seat in the general assembly in the 2022 elections. Having laid down all the facts, the Premier of Nevis has questioned the recently propagated narrative started by the party, calling PLP the fastest growing party in the country.

Premier Mark Brantley questioned how a single seat party can suddenly become the “fastest growing party in the Caribbean” He has also questioned whether the polls and rhetorics can be trusted over hard facts.
