The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, joined his St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party comrades in Constituency 6 of St Kitts. The event was hosted before the Labour Day celebration in St Kitts and Nevis on Monday, May 1, 2023. The senior leader of St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party, Dr Denzil Douglas, took his comrades to his parliamentary Constituency at St Paul’s.
The event was held on Thursday, April 27, 2023, and saw the attendance of several integral members of the political party, including:
- The Prime Minister of the country and the leader of the St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party, Dr Terrance Drew
- Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Leader of the political party, Dr Geoffrey Hanley
- Minister of Agriculture, Samal Duggins
- Minister of Tourism, Marsha Henderson
A large number of attendants were present at the venue of the event in St Paul’s village to interact with their leaders. Dr Drew and his other comrades addressed the people and touched on several critical matters. Constituency 6 is a significant venue for the labour movement since the administration has seen success there for several years.
Accordingly, Dr Terrance Drew addressed the people of the Constituency and thanked the people of St Kitts and Nevis, Constituency 6, for delivering a Labour Government in August 2022. He noted that the victory in August 2022 showed the people that Labour is Large and Labour is in charge in St Kitts and Nevis.
He further noted that the Constituency is the heart of St Kitts and Nevis. Dr Drew asserted that the transformation in Constituency 6 under the labour Government can not be understated. Accordingly, he added that the Youngest Ambassador of St Kitts and Nevis to the Republic of China, Donya Francis came from this Constituency.
Dr Joyelle Clarke, one of the senior senators, is a resident of St Paul’s Constituency 6. Several other administrative workers, Permanent Secretaries, Heads of government departments, and several notable members of the country’s government come from the St Pauls region and Constituency 6.
He stated that Labour is the Movement that transformed St Kitts and Nevis. They introduced the country’s people to the right to vote when they got universal adult suffrage in 1952. “No other party did it. No other movement did it”, asserted Dr Terrance Drew.
Dr Terrance Drew added that the Labour Movement gave the people of St Kitts and Nevis the right to own land. The Prime Minster thus asserted that Land ownership is also a Labour Initiative.
Additionally, Prime Minster Dr Terrance Drew asserted that the Labour government constructed hospitals and clinics in St Kitts and Nevis to ensure that the people can access healthcare. The St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party has also given the children of the country comprehensive secondary education in the early 1960s. The political party also delivered social security for the people and workers of the country.
With all these observations, Dr Terrance Drew Drew asserted that St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party delivered the foundation on which the country stands today. In line with this, he paid homage to all the leaders of the political party that came before him. He also expressed his pride in being a part of the oldest labour movement and political party in the English-speaking Caribbean.
The Parliamentary representative of Constituency Number 6 has retained his position in the national assembly since the start of his political career. Accordingly, Dr Douglas extended his heartfelt gratitude to the people of his Constituency for keeping their faith in him. He also reflected on the history of the political party. He expressed his confidence in the political party and its leaders that they will continue to work for the country’s people and deliver for them.
