The Premier of Nevis, Mark Brantley, recently took to his social media account to share a proud update regarding the success that the schools of Nevis have seen in the current sports season of St Kitts and Nevis. The Premier asserted that they see a significant development in the field of sports.
In line with this, Premier Mark Brantley shared that Yesterday the Charlestown Secondary School placed 2nd in the TDC InterHigh Meet at the Kim Collins Stadium. They succeeded in amassing 58 medals, including 27 gold ones during the event. The smaller Gingerland Secondary School placed 6th, collecting 18 awards, including four gold medals.
He shared that out of the 103 gold medals awarded at this championship, the two schools of Nevis captured 31 or 30.1% of the gold medals on offer while the seven schools of St Kitts captured the remaining 69.9% of the gold medal tally. With this statistic, Premier Mark Brantley shed light on the significant advances that the various initiatives of the Nevis Island Administration have introduced in their tenure
Premier Brantley clarified that it is important because it was just in 2016 that the Nevis Island Administration unveiled plans for constructing the Mondo track facility at Long Point. Aided by the initiative, the CCM government intended to allow our athletes to train and run on a professional surface like their peers in St Kitts and around the region.
Premier Mark Brantley asserted that the noise was loud and the political opposition to the facility was fierce. However the CCM led Government of Nevis ignored the noise. The IAAF-certified track was opened in Nevis in March 2018, just five years ago. And what spectacular results since then! The Charlestown Primary School has dominated primary school athletics in Nevis to St Kitt’s and won the first-ever Rams National Primary Schools Relay Championships.
CSS won their first rk GinsengUp High Schools National Championships. And CSS and GSS together won 30.1% of the gold medals on offer yesterday! He shared that the feat was Remarkable!!
Talking about the contrast between the situation of then and now, Mark Brantley asserted that at the same Inter High Championships in 2018, the CSS only had 15 gold medals, and GSS only had 1. Additionally, he noted that 5 years later, CSS has moved from 15 to 27 gold medals. GSS has moved from having only 1 to 4 gold medals.
