St Kitts and Nevis’ Minister of Creative Economy, sports and agriculture et al., Samal Duggins, attended a conference at the 2nd World Anti-Doping Agency for Caribbean Ministers in Jamaica. Minister Samal Duggins took to his social media account to share the update from the meeting.
All the sports ministers from across the Caribbean are attending The 2nd World Anti-Doping Agency for Caribbean Ministers in Jamaica. The meeting aimed to discuss the various rules and regulations implemented to govern the sports industry in the Caribbean.
During the meeting, Samal Duggins interacted with his various counterparts in the Caribbean. All the Ministers of the Caribbean had the Opportunity during the conference to sit at the table and dialogue on key issues, including legal frameworks, testing, and education are critical to ensure that our athletes are truly prepared for the world stage.
The meeting took place in Kingston, Jamaica. During the conference, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) called on all sports ministers to come together and form a collaboration. The government of Jamaica hosted the conference in partnership with the World Anti-Doping Agency. Talking about the motivation for the event, President Witold Bańka urged the participant nations to double their efforts in anti-doping.
The WADA also urged the people to educate their athletes about the anti-doping initiatives. Nine Ministers of Sports from the various Caribbean Nation, senior representatives from four other nations and the Caribbean Regional Anti-Doping Organization attended the World Anti-Doping Association. During the conference, the WADA focussed on:
- Drafting and implementing rules that are compliant with World Anti-Doping Code within a strong legal framework;
- The need for more in-competition and out-of-competition testing and the need to train more Doping Control Officers
- Making education a central pillar of every anti-doping program; and
- Further collaboration between Anti-Doping Organizations.
