The Minister of Agriculture and creative economy et al., Samal Duggins, visited the St Kitts Farmers Cooperative Society to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the society. The awards luncheon and events took place on January 15, 2023. Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, and Flemming also attended the event.

The ministers attended the award ceremony hosted as a part of the anniversary celebrations. Minister of Agriculture Samal Duggins shared an update on his social media account. He wrote that he was honoured to attend the event alongside Prime Minister Drew and Permanent Secretary Flemming.

During the event, Minister of Agriculture Samal Duggins paid tribute to Arabella Nisbett, Luther Clarke, Paulette Peets, and Ernest Wigley. He noted in his social media update that they have all been beacons related to the Federation’s development of agriculture.

Additionally, the minister of Agriculture noted that it was an absolute pleasure to discuss the way forward for this critical sector with this group of veterans in detail.

As per the Minister of Agriculture, Marine Resources, Fisheries and Cooperatives, Small Business and Entrepreneurship, Sports and the Creative Economy, The St Kitts Farmers Cooperative Society represents the type of collaboration St Kitts, and Nevis needs to reimagine and reposition agriculture in the Federation.

Samal Duggins further stated that the Ministry of Agriculture is ready to provide the necessary support to meet our food and nutrition security goals and economic development. Food security is one of the foremost mandates of the administration of St Kitts. St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party had committed to ensuring food security for the country’s people.

Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, also took to his social media to share an update regarding the visit to St Kitts Farmers Cooperative Society. He delivered brief remarks at the Awards Ceremony Luncheon. At the same time, he shared that the administration is devoted to modernizing and bringing the Agriculture Sector into the twenty-first century.
