Minister of Creative Economy Samal Duggins, the Ministry of the Creative Economy and the Easter Caribbean Collective Organisation for Music Rights (ECCO) pre-consultation press conference on October 13.
During the press conference, Minister Duggins stated that the government of St Kitts and Nevis established the Ministry of Creative Economy to ensure that all creatives have access to the knowledge to succeed in the local and international markets.
Minister of Creative Economy Samal Duggins interacted with the stakeholders of the ministry during the press conference. He said he wanted all the creatives of the nation, St Kitts and Nevis.
“I want all creatives, entertainers and entrepreneurs to excel.” He said. He also said, “I want them to excel just as I want all of our radio stations, festivals and event promoters to excel.”
However, he added that songwriters and publishers should also benefit and excel.
Minister Samal Duggins addressed the stakeholders of the creatives industry, including the entrepreneurs, creatives and entertainment workers, stating that, as we have heard today, the framework is in place for that to happen. However, we all have to do our best and do our part to make sure that the industry serves all stakeholders and not just some of us.”
As the minister responsible for managing the creative economy ministry, Samal Duggins wants to promote inclusivity so that the fruits of the industry’s labour may be enjoyed by one and all.
He added, “The talent is most definitely here in St Kitts and Nevis, so let us all recognise our roles and responsibilities.”
He urged the people to play their part in entertainment so our creatives can reap the full benefits of their creativity and talent.”
Further, He wanted to assist them in acquiring the resources they needed to develop their craft and keep producing material. He said so because the economy of St Kitts and Nevis needs diversification.
Following the press conference, Samal Duggins invited the stakeholders to attend the free consultation at NEMA in St Kitts on November 1 and at the NEPAC in Nevis on November 2.
St Kitts and Nevis hosted the press conference to bring awareness to copyright infringement laws and the role of ECCO in protecting music owners, songwriters and publishers.
