Michael Martins appointed as CIU Head by PM Terrance Drew, PC: Facebook, SKNIS

The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, visited the Citizenship by Investment Unit (CIU) on December 13, 2022, to introduce the management of the Unit to their new head, Michael Martin. Dr Drew also has the responsibility for the ministry of Finance, National Security, Citizenship and Immigration, Health & Social Security,

The New head of the CIU, Michael Martin, is very experienced and familiar with the Citizenship By Investment industry. At a point in his career, He was one of the top service providers in the industry.

St. Kitts and Nevis national, Michael Martin has served in top managerial positions in several companies. Some of the names include: 

  • National Caribbean Insurance Company 
  • Sagicor Life Inc.
  • National Bank Trust Company. 

Michael Martin is a highly accomplished individual with several compelling career experiences, making him worthy of his new position in St Kitts and Nevis CIU.

Martin is a former Director of the Insurance Association of the Caribbean. Additionally, the newly appointed head of the Citizenship by Investment Unit of St Kits and Nevis is the Honorary Secretary of the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park Society Council of Management. He is also a former Director of First Federal Cooperative Credit Union.

Micheal Martin secured his graduate diploma from the International Compliance Association and Manchester Business School. Other qualifications include the following: 

  • A certificate in International Trust Management. (He received the certificate from the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners)
  • A certificate in Managing Financial Services (Martin received the certificate from the University of the West Indies.)

At the briefing, the newly appointed Head of CIU expressed his gratitude towards the Prime Minister, Dr Terrance Drew, for trusting him with “this very important assignment”. Further, he also said his excitement about taking on the new task.

Following his appointment and orientation, Michael Martin revealed that he intended to conduct a situational analysis to assess the Unit’s status, which will assist in further determining the best way forward to “maximize efficiency and effectiveness”.

Further, he revealed that This operation is very critical to the development of the country and the people of the country. 

He stated that they need to rebrand and refocus the programme, define strategic goals, and create new investment options that align with those strategic goals.”

St Kitts and Nevis’ Citizenship By Investment Programme is expected to undergo a complete evolution. While outlining his strategic plans for the Unit, he stated that his focus is on advancing the country. 

He added, “We will be looking at emerging markets and redefining our target client. There must be some exclusivity to it,” he said.

Also present at the meeting was Attorney General Garth Wilkin, Cabinet Secretary Marcus Natta, and Operations Manager at CIU Larry Vaughn.
