Grenada: Amid the time when several countries, as well as international organisations such as – the European Union, are imposing restrictions on Russia following its invasion of Ukraine, the Caribbean nation of Grenada joining the league temporarily ceased dual citizenship to the Russian and Belarus nationals.
Government officials of Grenada notified that no new applications of Russians and Belarusians would be accepted by Citizenship By Investment Units amid the current scenario between Russia and Ukraine. This regulation comes immediately into effect.
The official press release statement cites, “The Government of Grenada has decided to temporarily suspend the acceptance of new applications from Russians and Belarussians for the Citizenship by Investment Programme with immediate effect”.
“Grenadian government is closely monitoring the current situation in Ukraine and will advise of any further changes to its present policy on this matter”.
Proving once again their support to the European Union, besides Grenada, other Caribbean nations such as – Dominica, St Kitts and Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda, St Vincent and the Grenadines have also implemented the exact regulation of temporarily ceasing the new applicants from Russians and Belarussians. This decision is taken into consideration and solidarity with the population of Ukraine.
The Government of Grenada said, for the time, it is suspending the benefits of dual citizenship to the Russians residing in any corner of the world.
An issued statement by the government authorities of Antigua and Barbuda clarifies, “The rapidly evolving and deteriorating conditions and the ever-expanding list of Russian sanctions compel us to acknowledge that it has become increasingly challenging for us to operate in those jurisdictions”.
“The CIU, therefore, advises that new applications originating from the aforementioned countries (Russia and Belarus) will not be accepted and processed at the time. As the situation will change, further information will be provided accordingly”.
The world has united against the Russian government. The United States of America the United Kingdom are among the nations that have imposed stringent sanctions on Russia. Meanwhile, the war situation forced numerous countries to close their airspace for the Russian airlines, a way of condemning the Russian government and showing their support to the Ukrainian population.
