The Minister of Agriculture, Sports and the creative economy, Samal Duggins, recently took to his social media to congratulate the successful athletes of St Kitts and Nevis who returned to their home country after a praiseworthy performance at the 50th edition of the CARIFTA Games. The sports event was hosted in the Bahamas.
St Kitts and Nevis athletes performed their best at the various events at the 50th CARIFTA Games. At the welcome ceremony of the athletes on April 12, 2023, Samal Duggins took to his social media account to share that his ministry and the members of the government of St Kitts and Nevis are honoured to collaborate with Saint Kitts & Nevis Amateur Athletic Association for the welcome ceremony.
The people of St Kitts and Nevis took the opportunity at the welcome ceremony to welcome home and celebrate the achievements of our #unstoppableskn athletes. The Minister of Sports, Samal Duggins, said the 22-member athletes represented the Federation well at the recently concluded Carifta Games.
The athletes reached St Kitts and Nevis from the Bahamas at 3:30 PM on Wednesday, April 12. Upon their arrival, the athletes attended a press conference, discussing their experience at regional sports events. Minister Samal Duggins urged the people to tune into the press conference.
St Kitts and Nevis Athletics and the Ministry of Sports came together to arrange the welcome ceremony. The celebratory motorcade also formed a part of the event.
The managing authorities of the event shared a warning for the people who planned to attend the welcome of St Kitts and Nevis to remain cautious at the motorcade. They wrote:
We are expecting large crowds to gather for the celebratory motorcade for team UnstoppableSKN this afternoon. We are asking all persons participating in this motorcade to practice safety and exercise caution. Persons should avoid hanging, swinging, or hopping from vehicles.
We ask that you not overload vehicles and practice road safety. Drivers are to be guided by the traffic regulations of St. Kitts and Nevis. While we celebrate, everyone is expected home safely. Let us have an incident-free motorcade.
The motorcade will travel eastwards along the bypass road towards Wellington Road, onto Cayon Street, then Wigley Avenue, across Bay Road, and then up Fort Street. The motorcade will end at the SKNOC office in Taylor’s Range. Parents and guardians are asked to collect their child or ward from the SKNOC office in Taylor’s at the end of the motorcade.
Minister Samal Duggins is currently abroad due to some government business. However, he has extended his deepest congratulations to the athletes.
