PM Terrance Drew shares update about Stakeholders breakfast Forum

The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, attended the Stakeholders Breakfast Forum. The breakfast forum was held at the St Kitts Marriott Ballroom on Tuesday, February 21, 2023. It formed a part of the Social Security Board 45th Anniversary celebrations. The Prime Minister shared some glimpses from the event on his social media account. 

The 45th Anniversary of the Social Security Board is being celebrated under the theme “Transform, Reform, Thrive Social Security 45”. Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew noted that the Stakeholders Breakfast Forum saw several important attendants marking their presence at the occasion. 

The event had representatives from the Social Security Board of Directors, Senior Government Officials, Former Ministers of Government, various private sector entities and other stakeholders.

Talking about the proceedings of the event, Dr Terrance Drew, who also serves as the minister for social security, informed the people of St Kitts and Nevis that Actuary, LifeWorks, Derek Osborne, gave a rather insightful and informative presentation of the 13th Actuarial review of the Social Security Fund. The Social Security Fund is a compulsory insurance fund established by an Act of Parliament in 1977.

The Prime Minister and Minister of Social Security took the opportunity to acknowledge that Social Security is the largest safety net programme that the Government of St Kitts and Nevis has access to. Dr Drew shared that It has remained strong up to this point; However, the government do recognize that for it to remain strong, there are critical things that must be done, and these things require political will.

Accordingly, Prime Minister Terrance Drew and the Ministry of Social Security have committed to working towards strengthening the Social Security Board of St Kitts and Nevis, which was first established in 1978. The 45th Anniversary of the social security board is being observed with several events and engagements with the stakeholders.
