The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis reflected on the trip to Shashamane as an opportunity for the people of the country to reflect on the ties of the Africa and the Caribbean. The Prime Minster visited the Ethiopian town during his visit for the Africa CARICOM Summit 2025.
During the visit, Prime Minster Drew was accompanied by his delegation Including the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Denzil Douglas. The leaders toured the whole city of Shashamane which is considered as one of the most profound connections between Caribbean and Africa.
During the visit, Prime Minister said that the city is proof of the fact that the Atlantic never really divided the two regions. The residents of Shashamane gave the Prime Minister a warm welcome into the city which they received from the emperor
The Prime Minster was delighted to have had the opportunity to meet with some of the residents of the city and reflect on the history, culture and roots that bind them together. The officers and national leaders have shared some images from the event on their social media.
The Prime Minster said that Shashamane is the living proof of the connection between the Caribbean region and Africa. The symbolic home of the Rastafari community away from their homes, Shashamane has long been a proof of the enduring ties between the human capital of the Caribbean region and the Africa.
The Prime Minister also visited the Jubilee Palace of Ethiopia during his visit to the city to pay his tribute to the history of the nation and its people. The palace, currently a museum of history of the country has been standing as a proof of the hope and appreciation. The officials have shared that the members of the delegation who visited the organization has been working with the international community to further international ties with the people of Africa.
