Dr Terrance Drew, Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis is attending the 72nd Meeting of the OECS Authority from Wednesday, October 19, 2022 to October 20, 2022.
He travelled to Montserrat for the meeting. OECS will host the conference for two days, October 19 and 20. During the OECS Authority meeting, Dr Terrance Drew and other Heads of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) will tackle myriad issues.
Prime Minister Dr Drew addressed the first session of the conference on October 19, during which he urged the attending heads must include a strategy for enhancing the viability and sustainability of our Citizenship by Investment Programmes. According to Dr Terrance Drew, it is an essential topic of discussion.
Additionally, Dr Terrance Drew also stated, “Many of our countries are dependent on the revenues generated by this programme, but we must not be short-sighted or sell our countries short,”
During his address at the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), Dr Terrance Drew took the opportunity to inform the attendents of the event, “We must be aware of the risks associated with devaluing our programme.
Additionally, he said that the nations must develop a united approach which will ensure the viability and continued success of the programme for all our Member States who are involved and all of our citizens who benefit and will continue to benefit (from the CBI Programmes).”
According to Prime Minister Dr Drew, along with the myriads of opportunities, the Member States must not overlook any challenges. He stated that (they) must address these challenges as a priority.
According to Dr Drew, the primary source of these challenges is, Glaring gaps in our intra-regional transportation sector. He said that the nations achieve our development objectives if we ignore the challenges posed by the issue of transportation.
He elaborated, “An efficient and sustainable transportation system will yield benefits for investment, trade and movement of people- two pillars of our regional integration movement,”
Further, Prime Minister Dr Terrance drew acknowledges that the region cannot have an efficient economic union without addressing these issues. Consequently, he reaffirmed St Kitts and Nevis’ commitment to strengthening the OECS Economic Union.
