Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew hosted a farewell party in the government house in Basseterre, where he extended his best wishes for Roger Nyhus, former US Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean and the Organization of the Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).
The farewell party was hosted by the government of St Kitts and Nevis to commemorate Roger Nyhus whose term as the US Ambassador Roger Nyhus was concluded on Monday, January 20, 2025.
Furthermore, Ambassador Nyhus cut a cake with words ‘Best Wishes’ written on it as he also raised a toast while praising PM Drew for his outstanding leadership in developing St Kitts and Nevis.
Ambassador Nyhus praises PM Drew and St Kitts and Nevis
Roger Nyhus said that he visited the country five times as the ambassador and that he has enjoyed partnering with the small island while supporting the nation so close to the United States.
Sharing a post on his social media, he said, “There’s no doubt I’ll be back soon. This magical place and the wonderful people are in my heart for good.”

The event was attended by top leaders of the twin island-nation, including Governor General Dame Marcella Liburd, Prime Minister Terrance Drew and his wife Diani Jimesha Prince-Drew, foreign affairs minister Denzil Douglas, and senior government officials and staff members from the US Embassy in Bridgetown.
Appointment of Roger Nyhus as the US Ambassador
Roger Nyhus was appointed as the ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean by former US president Joe Biden in September 2022.
His appointment was confirmed by the US Senate in November 2023 and Nyhus took charge of the office in January 2024 succeeding Linda Swartz Taglialatela.
Goals Nyhus worked on
As the ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Roger Nyhus said he worked on three important goals during his term – addressing climate change, strengthening regional security, and promoting economic prosperity for all.
“Together, through genuine partnership and collaboration, we have made significant progress on all 3,” he said in his farewell address.
He further added that their biggest achievement was securing $1 billion approximately in financial assistance to both Barbados and St Kitts and Nevis through EXIM Bank.
