St Kitts and Nevis: Dr Denzil Douglas- the Minister of Foreign Affairs met with Roger Nyhus, the US Ambassador to Saint Kitts and Nevis and the Eastern Caribbean last week during his courtesy visit to the nation.
During the meeting, both had the opportunity to strengthen their diplomatic ties and discuss several aspects of their mutual interests and priorities. This was the first and the official visit of the US Ambassador Roger Nyhus since his appointment in January 2024.
The meeting took place on Tuesday (February 13) among several other delegations. These delegations include Kaye Bass- Permanent Secretary, and Sheldon Henry, Foreign services officer.
Ambassador Nyhus was accompanied by Cierra Saylor, second secretary and Kay Hinds, the Protocol Supervisor.
Minister Douglas also took to his official social media handle to welcome the Ambassador to the nation. He further also shared some glimpses of their significant meeting.
He noted, “US Ambassador H.E. Roger Nyhus Meets with Foreign Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas to Discuss Shared Priorities”.
Ambassador Nyhus emphasised the three priority areas for bilateral cooperation between the United States and the St Kitts and Nevis.
These three significant areas of the discussion were:
- Security
- Climate Change
- Economic Prosperity
Further, Ambassador Nyhus underscored the United States’ commitment towards enhancing security measures and promoting regional stability in the nation.
He emphasised the need to take stringent actions towards addressing Climate change and build resilience through investment in renewable energy.
He further also stressed the importance of fostering economic prosperity through trade and other investment opportunities in St Kitts and Nevis.
Minister Douglas was delighted with Ambassador Nyhus’s reaffirmed commitment towards the Sustainable Island State Agenda of the nation.
He further looked hopeful and underlined the bilateral collaboration between the United States and St Kitts and Nevis to address these challenges and foster economic development within the region.
He also welcomed the opportunity to work closely with the United States to achieve their state agenda and enhance the prosperity and resilience of both nations.
