Minister Marsha T Henderson has launched a community beautification drive for Central Basettere, that is Constituency 2. The Minister has shared that the members of the community have the opportunity to support the community in their effort for beautifying the region.
The initiative was started over the previous weekend and continued on Monday. The “Our Community, Our Pride” Community Beautification Initiative. The aim of the initiative is to encourage more and more people of the country to participate in taking care of their neighbourhoods and taking ownership of their community.
According to Minister Henderson, the initiative makes use of the principles of community tourism The aim is to make the people aware of the responsibility of keeping their community beautiful, clean and friendly.
Minister Henderson’s “Our Community, Our Pride” Community Beautification Initiative has been seeing significant success. The people, in the last several weeks, have been working together and large-scale coordinated effort.
The community has taken the support of government stakeholders to clean some targetted areas of Central Basseterre. The organization has shared that they were able to clear out a large amount of white goods and waste material.
The stakeholders also engaged in activities like overgrown verges, tree grooming, drain cleaning. They placed garbage bins in strategic places around the community to promote cleanliness and hygiene.
The Minister’s initiative was supported by several organizations including the Solid Waste Management Corporation, Parks and Beaches stakeholders, Ministry of Health, Department of Environment and other officials. The Minister highlighted that the programme would not have been possible without support from these partners and organizations.
The Minister expressed her gratitude to the people of community as well as the partners who have extended their best wishes to the success of the initiative.
A large number of people have participated in the initiative and helped in making the community more beautiful.
