The Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade, Commerce and Industry, Dr Denzil Douglas, delivered brief remarks on starting the Week of Activities to commemorate World Consumer Rights Day. The Minister asserted that he is delighted to make his first address in observance of world consumer rights day 2023. Since it was first introduced in 1983 by consumers, International World consumer rights day is celebrated annually on March 15.
According to the Minister of International Trade and Commerce, Dr Denzil Douglas, This celebration provides a platform for agencies and organizations involved in promoting and protecting consumer rights and highlighting the importance of consumer rights. And, of course, to advocate for policy changes intertwined with consumer transactions.
Dr Douglas shared that as we celebrate World consumer rights day, we aim to empower consumers through clean energy transitions. It is an opportunity for us as consumers, as business owners and as Government to emphasize the need to protect our planet from the negative effects of high concentrations of greenhouse gases.
In addition, Dr Denzil Douglas shared that it allows for promoting various forms of teen or renewable energy sources and highlighting the cost-saving benefits offered to our consumers. As a government, the world over, we struggle to navigate the greatest cost of living crisis in a generation and as the energy World responds to supply and climate issues.
Ultimately, Dr Denzil Douglas shared that integrating alternative energy sources must achieve long-term sustainability to benefit our consumers and better understand the theme’s overall importance for World consumer rights day 2023. We must first understand the relationship between the continued consumption of fossil fuels, its effect on global warming, and climate change and the continued effects on our daily lives.
The implications of fossil fuel usage on our planet are troubling and need urgent attention. Therefore, emphasis must be placed on transitioning away from our overwhelming dependence on this energy source to more sustainable financial and economic sources, which can prove more beneficial to our consumers.
