Denzil Douglas meets German Diplomat, holds important discussions, SKNIS

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Denzil Douglas, met with the Ambassador of Germany on January 11, 2023. The Ambassador, Ute Konig, travelled to St Kitts and Nevis on the Royal Clipper Cruises as a part of her vacation. The Minister of Foreign Affairs took to his social media account to share the update on his social media.

He also shared some images to go with the update. Reportedly, this is the german Ambassador, Ute Konig’s first ambassadorial visit of the year. The german diplomat visited the federation at the peak of their tourism season. She called on the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade et al. All this while, she was on a private vacation on a cruise ship.

During her meeting with St Kitts and Nevis Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Denzil Douglas, Ambassador Ute Konig noted that St Kitts and Nevis and Germany have a longstanding relationship. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Denzil Douglas, stated that it is our commitment as a Country to foster closer ties with the nation.

Further, Dr Douglas committed to creating deeper relations under the scope of mutual interests within Climate Action, Information and Communication Technologies and Agriculture.

Dr Denzil Douglas further indicated in the social media post that he sought the assistance of Germany regarding the ongoing Geothermal and Solar Energy Projects in the Federation. The government of St Kitts and Nevis sought Germany’s aid to develop a desalination plant and other government renewable energy projects.

In line with this view, the German Ambassador reiterated her country’s commitment towards fighting climate change. At the same time, they discussed several laws and practices that Germany has implemented to reach their green energy goals.

On behalf of her country, Ambassador Konig extended her gratitude to St Kitts and Nevis for their stance on the Russia and Ukraine conflict.
