The Health Promotion Unit Nevis took to their official social media handle (Facebook) to share the information with the general public.

“Touch of Love Inc. invites you to lace up your sneakers and join us for a walk with a purpose! In honor of International IBO & Autoimmune Disease Day, observed annually on May 19th, we’re hitting the Road to raise awareness and support those affected by these conditions”, added Nevis Health Unit.

Some of the key takeaways of walkathon are as follows:

  1. The morning will start with a vibrant warm-up session
  2. Spread awareness and show your support for individuals battling IBO & other autoimmune conditions
  3. It is a great opportunity for the citizens to connect with fellow participants which will make a positive impact in the community.

It is to be noted that the individuals can register themselves by paying a sum of $20.00 per entrant. The health promotion unit of Nevis has also shared the route for the walkathon.

According to the information, the walkathon will start from the Malcolm Guishard Recreational Park (MGRP) and will head onto the island main road.

They will continue their walk to the bypass road and proceed to Craddock Road by Zone One Auto and then move down to the stone wall in front of the Lawrences Property.

The participants will continue their walk to the right of the island’s main road and will pass Fanny’s Variety Store. The walkathon will be concluded at the designated endpoint at the MGRP.

Additionally, IBO and Autoimmune diseases are considered as chronic inflammatory disorders. They are classified as “lung disorders of unknown etiology.” Notably, Autoimmune disease is caused when the immune system responses against one or more normal constituents of the body.
