Basseterre: St. Kitts Health Promotion Unit encouraged citizens to unite and support the individuals affected by lupus on the ‘World Lupus Day.’ The officials addressed the devastating effects of lupus around the globe.

They raised awareness and urged the people to show solidarity for them who are battling with this autoimmune disease. A small step can make a huge difference in the lives of those, who are living with this disease.

The St. Kitts Health Promotion Unit took to its official social media handle (Facebook) to raise awareness about lupus, which can affect the people of all nationalities, genders, ethnic groups and ages.

“By coming together and showing support, we can make a difference in the lives of those living with lupus. Let’s unite in spreading awareness and showing compassion for those fighting this illness,” added health unit.

The officials have introduced some tips for Lupus Warriors which are as follows:

  • Keep all medical appointments
  • One should avoid sunlight as much as possible
  • The individuals suffering from Lupus are encouraged to get enough sleep and rest
  • Learn and understand what triggers a flare and when a flare-up is coming
  • Stay with somebody, who should be trust worthy and build a support system of trusted friends and family

Additionally, the day is observed world-wide to support the people affected by this condition. Lupus is a critical disease and can pose a great threat to the lives of people and affect any organ of the body. It is one of those categories of autoimmune disease which is unable to differentiate between the healthy cells and foreign cells.

Lupus has ability to generate auto antibodies, which causes damage, destroys healthy tissue, inflammation and severe pain throughout the body. Following are the symptoms of Lupus:

  • Stiffness
  • Swelling
  • Tenderness
  • Warmth in the joints
  • Loss of strength
  • Weakness
  • Muscle pain
