The government of St Kitts and Nevis is extending their heartfelt condolences on the death of the retired commander of the St Kitts and Nevis Defense Force, Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Norman Leroy Williams. The government took the opportunity to extend its heartfelt condolences to the friends and family of the deceased.
The commander’s wife, Carmen Greta Williams, other members of the family, and friends welcomed the gesture of the government. Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Norman Leroy Williams died on Friday, July 7. 2023. The deceased’s family, friends and family of the former commander, and the government of St Kitts and Nevis are grieving the profound loss.
Lieutenant Colonel Norman Leroy Williams devoted much of his life to serving this nation. The soldier served the country for over thirty-five (35) years as a member of the St Kitts Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF). He entered the armed forces in the year 1965. At the time, he was admitted as a private soldier and musician.
Later, he moved to the ranks upwards and saw the titles of Corporal, Sergeant, and Warrant Officer Class Two. In the year 1973, he was promoted to the post of Warrant Officer Class One. He got the appointment of Regimental Sergeant Major. He was the first soldier in the Defence Force to accomplish this.
He was a decorated and highly accomplished officer within the St Kitts and Nevis Defense Force. He was conferred to be an Honorary Citizen of Nebraska, USA. He received the Key to Nebraska from the city’s then Mayor, Mike Johanns, in 1992. He was further appointed and commissioned an Arkansas Traveller. Here, he served as an Ambassador of Goodwill from Arkansas, USA, and after the borders of the United States in 1992.
In 2010 Lieutenant Colonel Norman Leroy Williams was honoured for being appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his years of service to National Security
