The members of the Federal Cabinet of St Kitts and Nevis, headed by Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew, were dressed in Afro-Caribbean-styled outfits on the first Monday of February 2023. On February 6, 2023, the Members of the Prime Minister’s Cabinet met for the first Cabinet sitting of the month.
They took the opportunity to commemorate the event by dressing up in African and Afro-Caribbean outfits to pay tribute to the history and heritage shared by the residents of the Caribbean region share with the ancestors of Africa.
This gesture of the Federal Cabinet commemorated History & Heritage Month. Apart from the members of the Federal Cabinet that consists of PM Terrance Drew, Deputy PM Geoffrey Hanley, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Denzil Douglas, Minister of Creative Economy Samal Duggins, Minister of Public Utilities Konris Maynard, Minister of Tourism Marsha Henderson, Junior Minister of Gender Affairs, Isalean Phillip, Senator Joyelle Clarke Advisors and Ambassadors Kenneth Douglas and Leon Natta-Nelson were also invited by the members of the Prime Minister’s Cabinet to join this commemoration.
All the politicians took to their respective social media accounts to share their looks for the day with the people of St Kitts and Nevis. Accordingly, Senator with ministerial responsibilities, Joyelle Clarke, took to her social media to share her image. She was posing alongside fellow female ministers Isalean Phillip and Marsha Henderson.
She stated in the social media post that February begins our observance of History and Heritage Month. Today, the first Cabinet meeting for the month, we dressed to reflect that. She urged the people to normalize Black History and African History every day. At the same time, she asserted that we were African before we were anything else.
According to Cabinet Secretary Dr Marcus Natta, the Cabinet members understand the awesome responsibility of building on and remembering the sacrifices of our nation’s African ancestors and creating policies which will further empower the people of St. Kitts and Nevis.
The Federal Cabinet fully endorses and embraces this year’s theme of “Celebrating Four Hundred Years of African Ancestral Creativity and Ingenuity.” History and Heritage Month is observed annually in February.
