St Kitts Electricity Company Limited (SKELEC) initiated the Basseterre North Extension Feeder Upgrade Project on Sunday, in an effort to avoid future unscheduled outages while extending continuous electricity supply to the customers.
The Basseterre North Extension Feeder Upgrade Project will focus on upgrading mainline conductors from Buckley’s (near the JNF Hospital) to West Farm (along the island’s main road).
Furthermore, SKELEC warned the public that several scheduled outages will take place on the weekends, while also advising them to stay away from work zones to minimize traffic.
SKELEC stated that customers can expect interruption of power supply for several hours, about which the customers will be notified beforehand.
Basseterre North Extension Feeder Upgrade Project
The General Manager of SKELEC, Clement Williams stated that this upgrade project is valued at EC $ 1 million and is the first infrastructure improvement initiative among the others planned for the upcoming months by SKELEC.
He further added that this project will use the largest number of resources till date, including over 30 linesmen / technicians and support staff, while also collaborating with other telecommunications utility companies.
The Engineering Manager of SKELEC, Kenrod Roberts apologized for the inconvenience caused to the general public and said that these outages are planned and part of their broader efforts to reduce emergency and unplanned outages in the future.
Precaution to protect citizens and residents of St Kitts and Nevis
SKELEC reminded the citizens and residents to avoid the work zone areas to avoid causing traffic and also took precautions to protect customer appliances during outages.
They also advised customers to safeguard their equipment and appliances by not using them around the time of outages.
