The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, recently met with the representatives of major food suppliers and traders in St. Kitts and Nevis. The prime minister and the minister of social security in the Government of St Kitts and Nevis took the opportunity to discuss solutions to reduce the cost of food in supermarkets.

As a representative of the people in St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Drew is highly dedicated to ensuring that the country’s people can continue to afford the basic necessities of life. In line with this, the country’s prime minister acknowledges the issues that the rising cost of food prices can have on the lifestyle of the people.

The Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew also acknowledges the significant strain that the external forces are putting on the country’s economic stability. The global economy is currently struggling with high prices, which have driven up the cost of living and prices by a significant measure. For a small island nation in the eastern Caribbean, finding ways to avert economic crisis is important.

In line with this, Dr Terrance Drew stated that external forces are driving the rising cost of food. Still, your Government remains resolute in finding the right solutions to bring much-needed relief. The Government has already been making several efforts to ease the financial burden of the country’s people.

Prime Minister Dr Drew stated that they have already begun several initiatives to assist with reducing food prices and providing financial relief. These initiatives include the lowered corporate income tax and unincorporated business tax, reduced excise tax on unleaded gasoline, and reduced freight charges on 20-foot and 40-foot dry goods and cold storage containers.

It is important to note that the efforts made by the Government of St Kitts and Nevis are being met with appreciation and applause for the people of St Kitts and Nevis.
