St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew joined the annual J’ouvert morning celebrations on Thursday.

He was joined by Minister of Creative Economy Samal Duggins, Deputy Prime Minister Dr Geoffrey Hanley and his wife Diani Jimesha Prince Drew.

During the celebrations, PM Drew interacted with the citizens of St Kitts and Nevis and encouraged everyone to continue enjoying the carnival season in a safe and respectful manner.

Meanwhile, Minister Duggins also took to Facebook to share the glimpses of himself enjoying with the Prime Minister and the constituents.

He further invited everyone to take an active part in the carnival and said, “Only in St. Kitts—celebrating Christmas one day and turning up for Boxing Day J’ouvert the next! There’s only one place to be—Sugar Mas 53!”

Notably, Sugar Mas is a two-day parade which will take place on January 1 and 2, 2025 but the celebrations for the same officially kicked off on Boxing Day with J’ouvert.

It is considered as one of the best ways to start the new year in the Caribbean as revellers come on the road in their beautiful costumes while jamming to the sweet music provided by live bands.

Meanwhile, the J’ouvert on boxing day features multiple bands on road, all of which compete to win the title of the best band in the parade while entertaining the revellers.

The event was a huge success as it attracted a huge crowd comprising of people of all ages from across the island and the wider Caribbean region.

This year, the Road March title was secured by Kollision Band which marked their first ever victory. The band’s victory is being attributed to its energetical performance of its widely hit song ‘keys to the city’.

Meanwhile, the carnival celebrations will continue in St Kitts and Nevis with several events and activities, culminating with the final parade on January 2, 2025.
