The winners of J’ouvert and Road March 2024 were announced on December 26,2024 after several bands performed and provided a memorable experience to all those present on the streets of Basseterre.

J’ouvert features performances of various bands like Small Axe, Band International, Kollision Band, and ASAP Band.

These bands parade the streets of Basseterre with their music and cultural dances, while the audience who gathered on the streets judge their performance.

Kollision Band, who has been performing in the J’ouvert under Road March Category, won their first-ever Road March Title in J’ouvert parade on December 26, 2024, with its historic hit “Keys to the City”, that earned them a total of eight points.

Minister of Sports and Creative Economy Samal Duggins congratulated all the winners of J’ouvert and Road March competitions of 2024.

Minister Samal Duggins shared a post on his Facebook page, appreciating all the participants for their energy, and commitment to celebrate their culture, while also sharing names of the winners in different categories.

The categories included J’ouvert Troupes and Individual Mas Players results, Small Troupes, Large Troupes, and Road March winners.

Sports Minister Samal Duggins further expressed gratitude to all the participants, organizers, and supporters who made the event successful, while also hoping to continue the celebration of their culture with pride and unity.

J’ouvert and Road March competitions

The word J’ouvert comes from a French word “jour ouvert”, which means “daybreak”, referring to the start of the Carnival.

J’ouvert is a symbol of culture, talent, and unity, bringing together the entire nation, while boosting tourism and local businesses.

J’ouvert is a part of the Sugar Mas Carnival which is St Kitts and Nevis national carnival, and includes parades, music competitions, and traditional dances.

Sugar Mas is celebrated with costumed masquerades, drum bands, and pageant queens, with the entire community participating in the festivities.
