The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, took to social media and congratulated the 11 individuals who were honoured with special awards on Thursday evening.

The Ministry of Health organised the award ceremony as a way to appreciate and extend gratitude to the volunteers whose contributions were pivotal to the overall success of the different activities and programmes introduced under the SKN Moves Initiative, such as the 10K Charity Health Run and the SKN Moves 7-Week Campaign.

Dr Marissa Carty highlighted that the SKN Moves initiative has been playing a vital role in the transformation of health as it has helped to improve the lives of many people in St. Kitts and Nevis since its establishment.

Dr Carty noted that “SKN Moves has been an initiative that puts health education into action by encouraging and empowering people who participate in our activities.”

Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew was amongst the people who addressed the gathering. PM Drew stated that non-communicable diseases remain one of the leading causes of death in St. Kitts and Nevis.

The prime minister used the example of an occasion in order to urge citizens and residents to take their health more seriously by consuming less sugary and salted foods and engaging in more physical activities.

Dr Drew noted that if the residents of St Kitts and Nevis were to do basic things such as exercising, then their health would not be affected; with this, blood pressure, blood sugar, weight food bills would remain normal.

Dr Drew encouraged the residents of St Kitts and Nevis to take some of the health ideas from SKN Moves initiatives so that they can have a long life expectancy.

In addition, the SKN Moves initiative is a national programme targeting all residents of St Kitts and Nevis to encourage them to adopt healthier lifestyles and behaviours in order to stay healthy and prevent communicable diseases.
