Basseterre, St Kitts: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew shared the launch of the new state-of-the-art passport system as a part of the government’s 4th Generation Border Management System which is a major advancement in national security.
Prime Minister Drew was the amongst the first to receive this high-tech passport and sharing the glimpse of receiving the passport, he noted that, “We now have one of the most advanced passports in the world with the launch of the new state-of-the-art passport system, marking a significant advancement in national security.”
PM Drew made a visit to the Passport Office on November 11th, 2024, and highlighted the vision behind the launch of the new passport and said that it is a machine-readable passport featuring cutting-edge technology designed to strengthen security and streamline border management.
Significantly, this brand new enhanced passport system is supported by the Ministry of National Security and Canadian Bank Note, which is a trusted partner providing advanced technological support.
The Prime Minister also reflected on the vision of this initiative stating that, “This initiative is a cornerstone in our plan to modernize St Kitts and Nevis.”
He stated that by integrating the latest technology, there is an enhancement in the security measures of the country and it will also position them as a leader in the region as this passport not only protects the borders but also reflects the readiness to embrace a digital future.
PM Terrance Drew also expressed that he believes that this new system will allow St Kitts and Nevis to maintain a high standard of security which will eventually help the nation to join top Caribbean nations in terms of passport technology.
Additionally, he said that it is a key component of the modernization strategy, enhancing national security while positioning St Kitts and Nevis as a regional leader in technological innovation.
