The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, presided over a session with the Cabinet of Ministers. The cabinet ministers and the Prime Minister met on Monday, October 10, 2022, to discuss significant matters of national interest and made several important and influential decisions to improve the well-being of the people.
The following are the decisions taken:
The Ministers received a presentation from the Director of Policy Planning & Projects in the Ministry of Social Development and Gender Affairs, Azilla Clarke.
Her presentation centred around the Poverty Alleviation Programme (PAP) status. The Cabinet of Ministers approved the recommendations for reforming and restructuring the programme. These reforms aim to improve the programme’s efficiency for the people’s betterment.
The Cabinet has decided that the PAP will be managed by the Ministry of Social Development and Gender Affairs in the future. The Cabinet’s approved reformation of the PAP is in line with the pledge to improve the management of the programme so as to ensure that people can receive the adequate assistance they need.
Further, The Cabinet has approved the extension of the Private Home Option of the Citizenship by Investment (CBI) Programme to November 30 2023. This option allows realtors to sell private homes under the Citizenship By Investment
Finally, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the re-establishment of The Water Board. The Water Board has not been in operation for many years.
The Watercourses and Waterworks Act, Section 8 (1), entails the following:
“The Board shall control, manage, maintain, and supervise all watercourses and waterworks in the distribution area and shall provide (so far as is practicable) an adequate water supply for the consumers therein.”
The Cabinet, along with the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis stated that The decision to re-establish The Water Board is following your Government’s strong commitment to address and rectify the ongoing water supply issues being faced by the citizens and residents of St Kitts and Nevis
