A student of the Charlestown Secondary School, Shadé Bridgeman is the first to receive a Wallace Family bursary, thanks to former student turned diplomat Mr Eustace Theo Wallace of Hamilton.
The Diplomat of St Kitts and Nevis in Canada stated that his experience with foreign languages as a student at the Charlestown Secondary School has helped influence his career.
At a small but significant handing-over ceremony hosted at the Ministry of Education on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, Mr Wallace spoke of his experience and the reason behind giving back to his school,
Eustace Theo Wallace serves as Minister-Counselor at St Kitts and Nevis High Commission to Canada.
“For me, being in the role of a diplomat for the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, it is imperative that, as a small island state, we are equipped with the necessary linguistic skills in order to build relationships and networks all over the world.”
He explained that during his time at the Charlestown Secondary School, the department of Modern Languages Department helped to develop my curiosity about the world.” He also elaborated that he was able to learn about Africa, Latin America, Florence, Europe, and the Pacific through French and Spanish.”
He added that There was no limit to where you could go in the world if you spoke one language. Imagine if you can speak two. So this primary motivation shaped me in terms of my willingness to represent St. Kitts and Nevis in different capitals around the world and help brand Nevis specifically. I think that’s important,” he said.
Wallace confessed to experiencing a rush of nostalgia, memories and experiences which led him to help others to get involved in Foreign Languages.
Wallace stated that during his time at the Secondary School, the staff of the school, teachers and principal always helped him, which is why he wanted to use this opportunity to give it back, to help make a difference in another life of another student, by means of the Wallace Family Scholarship.
Ms Bridgeman, the recipient of the Ascholarship, expressed her gratitude to Mr Wallace.
Shadé Bridgeman said, “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Mr Wallace and his family for this contribution. It would be of great help to me, and I pledge to put it to good use. I thank you,”
