Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis: The Minister of Tourism, Marsha Henderson called for new policy initiatives to eliminate the sale of counterfeit products at the ports of entry to maintain the authenticity of the Kittian experience.
She addressed these safety issues during the Ministry’s press conference on Tuesday at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort. She aimed to target merchandise, who are selling their goods such as alcohol, jewellery and fabric for dishonest or illegal purposes.
As St. Kitts and Nevis is recognised as one of a premier tourist destination in the world, it is essential to protect its reputation, especially the local commodities among the tourists.
The market of counterfeit products poses a great threat to the valuable travellers or visitors of the twin-island nation and it can possibly harm the reputation of the destination. While addressing the issue at the press conference, the tourism minister emphasised on upgrading the standards of the ports.

She said that her ministry is collaborating with the Office of the Attorney- General to implement the stringent laws and rules to tackle the problem of illegal or forged sale of any good.
“The support of the Attorney General’s Office is critical to ensuring these measures are effectively enforced and violators are held accountable,” Henderson said.
Furthermore, Henderson encouraged the merchants operating at the RLB International Airport and Port Zante to cooperate and collaborate to combat the vending of fake merchandise. Moreover, they are urged to maintain the legitimacy of their products as it reflects their genuineness and high quality.
The Tourism Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis expressed her trust and confidence that with the support of all stakeholders, they will significantly reduce the sale of counterfeit goods at the ports. Noting this, it will also help to enhance the overall experience of the visitors.
The twin-island Federation is best known for its pristine beaches, party-like atmosphere, natural scenery, and sunny climate among others.
