Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis: The second edition of Fish Fry and Cook-Off Festival witnessed great success in East Basseterre. The festival took place on July 6, 2024.
Deputy Prime Minister Dr Geoffery Hanley, through his official Facebook account, shared the highlights of the festival. The event led by Minister Hanley was hosted under the theme “Its Cook-Off Time.”
The Minister outlined that although the highlight of the festival was the 2nd Annual East Basseterre top chef competition, the selection of delicious food was equally remarkable. From sumptuous seafood boil to the curried crab and fried fish, which was being fried on location, the attendees were clearly satisfied.
With a total of 5 chefs, the competition happened to be exciting and the supporters showed up and showed out. The festival attracted all professional chefs of the East Basseterre community. The competitors were welcomed from all areas of St. Kitts and Nevis.

The winner of the competition, Joestan Eddy, from Gillard Meadows, received a total of 139 winning points. He was rewarded with a cash prize of $1,000 and also other prizes. The 1st runner-up, Renaldo Mills of Market Street gave a notable competition and amassed a total of 138 points. A cash prize of $500 and other prizes was presented to him.
A second-year competitor, Akeem Peters from Bird Rock, came in at 3rd place with a total of 127.5 points. He walked away with a cash prize of $300 and other prizes.

Dr Geoffery Hanley also congratulated Edy Jesus Mitrell Lora of Old Road and Sylvia Dabrio Queeley of St. Peters for their participation. Each of them was awarded with a gift and a trophy for participating.
For the competition, each of the participant was given a mystery box with identical ingredients and a time limit of 90 minutes to plate one dish for 3 judges. Despite of the pressure of the time, all the competitors were able to make it to the finish line and complete their dishes.

Dr Hanley also shared glimpses from the competition and pictures of the delicious dishes plated by the competing chefs.
Deputy Prime Minister Hanley also gave credits to the East Basseterre volunteers, the sponsors, donors, and supporters. “This event marks our 2nd run and we are excited to produce a bigger and better event next year,” he concluded.
