Three St. Kitts Women Cricketers Selected for CWI Under-19 High-Performance Camp

Three promising women cricketers from St Kitts and Nevis, Zara Skerritt, Leanga Warner and Aaliyah Weekes have been selected for Cricket West Indies’ (CWI) Under-19 Women’s High-Performance Camp in Antigua. Three cricketers have represented the Leeward Islands at the Rising Stars Women’s Under-19 Championship which concluded recently. 

The women players are three out of the 22 players selected for the two-week High-Performance Camp. According to the information shared by Cricket West Indies, the camp will run from August 17 to 29.

The St. Kitts Cricket Association has celebrated the selection of the three young cricketers into the High Performance Camp. According to the association, “the selection represents a significant achievement for the three St. Kitts players.” The association further believes that this is another important step in their development and will help them pursue opportunities within the West Indies women’s cricket pathway.

The St Kitts Cricket Association has acknowledged that during the Rising Stars Women’s Under-19 Championship, the St. Kitts contingent made a notable impact. During the championship, Zara Skerritt and Aaliyah Weekes finished among the tournament’s top five run-scorers.

“Skerritt played for a highly impressive campaign and scored 113 runs during the whole championship at an average of 28.25. She also played an innings of 37 not out during the championship.

Weekes also made a valuable contribution to her team’s performance throughout the championship. Weekes scored a total of 105 runs during the championship and played at an averag of 20.20. Her highest score was 31 not out.

The girls performance highlights the quality and potential that the young female cricketers in St. Kitts hold. The selection of all three girls shows the depth of the female cricket talent that is emerging from St Kitts

The CWI High-Performance Camp is  part of the region’s preparations for the ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in 2027. The camp will help identify, develop and prepare the next generation of West Indies women’s cricketers.

The selection for the camp was done based on players’ performances in the Rising Stars Championship. The cricketers will be taken through various tests and assessments during the camp including technical assessments, tactical awareness. They will also be tested on age eligibility for the 2027 World Cup. The girls will be screened based on their individual temperament, competitiveness, fitness and the overall balance of the squad.
