St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party organized the 90th-anniversary celebration thanksgiving service for the political party. The leader of the SKNLP and the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, took the opportunity to address the people of St Kitts and Nevis who attended the thanksgiving services.
During the thanksgiving service, Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew stated that they could have done much to acknowledge and celebrate the people who came before them and the change they brought to the country. However, according to Dr Drew, bringing the political party back to the government was the best tribute the present leaders could give to their forefathers.
The present leader of the political party, Dr Drew, credited St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party for being at the centre of all the major developments and revolutions in the country and the Caribbean. The political party dates back to 1932 when the organization started as St Kitts and Nevis Worker’s League. The party leadership subsequently renamed the organization St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party.
According to Dr Terrance Drew, In the ninety years of history of the political party, St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party has remained at the forefront of change. The Present leader of SKNLP recounted in his address that former leaders and prominent personalities worked to ensure that the people of St Kitts and Nevis can enjoy the freedom and benefits that St Kitts and Nevis enjoy today.
The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis noted that the political party played a crucial role in ensuring that the people of St Kitts and Nevis enjoy Universal Adult Sufferage. Under this, they can enjoy equal rights irrespective of gender, race, social status, wealth, political stance, or other criteria.
Meanwhile, the political party was at the helm for ensuring that the citizens and people of St Kitts and Nevis have the right to own land and social security. Under social security, the people of St Kitts and Nevis can enjoy financial protection if they become ill, hurt, pregnant, retired, unemployed, or have met their untimely demise.
Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew noted that his political party worked to ensure that all the children and adults of St Kitts and Nevis can access quality education. Additionally, he credited the political party for working on getting control of their affairs as a government.
While paying tribute to the historical figures of the political party, Dr Terrance Drew recollected the names of the organization, St Kitts and Nevis workers league’s first members.
