Department of Community Development to host Agro – Processing Workshop

The Department of Community Development will be organizing an Agro – Processing Workshop, starting from January 21, 2025, at the Pond Hill Community Centre, Saint George Gingerland, St Kitts and Nevis.

Schedule of Agro – Processing sessions

After the inaugural session, the workshop will be conducted weekly, with sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, featuring the Nevis’ Agri Expo Patron of 2024, Valary Ermaine Hendrickson.

Registration Process for Agro – Processing Workshop

Registrations for the workshop are currently open with the last date to register being Friday, January 10th, 2025.

The interested citizens can register for the workshop with a $50 registration fee and can contact the department for additional details at 469 5521.

Premier Mark Brantley invites

Premier of Nevis Island, Mark Brantley also shared a post on his Facebook page inviting citizens to join the agro – processing workshop, in an effort to improve the agriculture sector, and to help people improve their skills.

Guest for 2025 Agro – Processing Workshop 

Valary Ermaine Hendrickson is an agriculturist doing backyard gardening, floral arrangements and fruit baskets, with major contributions in agro – processing.

She completed a 10-day course in agro – processing at the Caribbean Industrial Research (CARIRI) in Trinidad, improving her skills while learning about branding, labeling, and presentation of her products.

Agro – Processing Workshop

In Agro – Processing Workshop, people learn and enhance the process of transforming raw agricultural goods into processed and packaged products.

The workshop will help the attendees improve their skills, by learning how to make items such as drinks, jams and more.

Agro – Processing is a process with many steps like cleaning, sorting, cutting, preserving, and packaging which helps enhance crops shelf life, boosts their nutritional value and minimizes post-harvest losses.

Nevis’ Agri Expo

The government will also be organizing Nevis’ Agri Expo on March 27 and March 28, 2025 with the theme, “A New Era: Leveraging Technology for Sustainable and Inclusive Agriculture”, with the aim to develop agriculture sector in Nevis.

Nevis’ Agri Expo was launched last year on Thursday, March 21st and 22nd, 2024 at the Elquemedo Willett Park in Nevis, by inviting Valary Ermaine Hendrickson as the patron.

The theme of last year’s Nevis’ Agri Expo was “Promoting Sustainable Agriculture for a Resilient Future.”

Minister of Agriculture in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA), Deputy Premier Eric Evelyn hosted the event and also presented a gift basket to patron Valary at the opening ceremony of Agri-Expo 2024.

The event included food demonstrations, technical demonstrations, performances by cultural groups, domino competition, musical entertainment by local DJs, raffle drawing, and giveaways.
