In a blow that sent shockwaves through the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Jason Holder will not be playing for the Barbados Royals. For the first time since 2013 when the CPL began, Holder will be leaving the team he had been a part of for the past 12 years.
Jason Holder has been acquired by St Kitts and Nevis Patriots as a result of a trade that occurred before the Caribbean Premier League draft which will take place next month.
Notably, the all rounder joined the Royals’ squad at the start of the 2013 CPL. He was also a member of the 2014 and 2019 champion teams (as skipper). Holder took 97 wickets in 104 matches (102 innings) at an economy of 7.80 and also put up 1,169 runs (85 innings) at a strike rate of 129.60.
Sherfane Rutherford has been traded to Barbados
Sherfane Rutherford has joined Barbados Royals a trade that also saw Holder and Alick Athanaze go the other way. For Rutherford, this is a new challenge as he, currently, is playing for Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League. From 2018 to 2020 Rutherford was a part of Guyana Amazon Warriors.
Rutherford will be a part of the group that includes Rovman Powell, David Miller, Quinton de Kock, and Rahkeem Cornwall in Barbados Royals.
Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025
The Caribbean Premier League 2025 is set to take place from August 14 to September 21, 2025. This year will mark the 13th season of the tournament and will be played across six Caribbean countries – Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Guyana, St Kitts & Nevis, St Lucia, and Trinidad & Tobago.
During CPL 2025, St Lucia Kings will present themselves as the defending champions. It will be sponsored by the Republic Bank and will feature a total of 34 matches.
