The Nevis Island Assembly elections, hosted on Monday, December 12, 2022, have successfully concluded. The conclusion came with the former ruling party, the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) returning to the majority in the Nevis Island Assembly.
The successful Concerned Citizens Movement candidates, Mark Brantley, Eric Evelyn and Spencer Brand, expressed their gratitude through their social media accounts.
The Concerned Citizens Movement secured three out of the total five seats in the local assembly of Nevis.
From Constituency 1, Spencer Brand won from the Concerned Citizens Movement.
From Constituency 2, Mark Brantley won from the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM).
From Constituency 3, Eric Evelyn won the seat for the Concerned Citizens Movement.
Meanwhile, from Constituency 4, CCM candidate Alexis Jeffers faced defeat after a tooth-and-nail fight with the leader of the Nevis Reformation party, Janice Daniel Hodge. A lead of eight votes defeated him.
The first-time Constituency 5 candidate Latoya Biyanca Jones also didn’t grab a seat.
Mark Brantley, in his message, also congratulated the other successful candidates, whether they came from his own Political Party or the opposition, Nevis Reformation Party.
The Premier of Nevis extended the heartiest congratulations to our CCM team. (he wrote congratulations) To Eric and Spencer, stating that they have earned the love and trust of your constituents.
Further, in his post, Mark Brantley thanked the people of Nevis for reposing their trust in him and his political party one more time. He expressed that he was humbled by their faith in him and his political party.
To my brother Alexis and my sister Latoya, I thank you for your exceptional service and spirited campaign. He assured the unsuccessful candidates that the next chapter of their service was still to be written.
To Dr Janice Hodge and Cleone Stapleton Simmonds, I extend my congratulations.
He congratulated the unsuccessful candidates for NRP, Dr Patricia Bartlette, Jaedee Caines and Rohan Isles.
He expressed that It is time for everyone to settle down and get to work.
Further, he pledged his undying love and commitment to this beloved land of my birth Nevis.
Spencer Brand, CCM candidate and elected representative of electoral district 1, also shared his gratitude for the people of his Constituency.
He wrote on his social media: I wish to thank the people of St Paul’s for reposing their confidence in me to represent them in the Nevis Island Assembly.
He expressed that The results of this election were a judgment of my performance in the previous term. He was honoured that the people of his Constituency have found it fit to return him to the office so that he may finish all he started on the people’s behalf.
Brand expressed that he looks forward to his second term as the representative of Nevis 1 and continuing to deliver for the people on the vision that the Concerned Citizens Movement and he has for Constituency 1 and the island of Nevis.
He also congratulated his fellow candidates on the hard-fought and well-run campaigns. Thanks to my hard-working team, this is your victory, as it is as much mine.
Alexis Jeffers and Latoya Biyanca Jones also thanked the people of Nevis for their support, committing to serving their respective constituencies, even though they did not win the elections
