Antigua: A young teen girl has finally been brought to justice after her 24-year-old uncle has been sentenced to 17 years of imprisonment on Sunday. He was charged for raping his 12-year-old niece multiple times.
As per the reports, on Sunday, January 24, 2024, he was sentenced to 17 years for each count of incest and 2 years for indecent assault. Notably, the one count of indecent assault carries a maximum of 5 years of confinement and can be extended.
He was found guilty of raping and assaulting the minor several times and his remand has been deducted by the authorities.
It is to be noted that the victim used to stay with his uncle, grandmother and several other family members in one home, for several years. One night, she felt a bit uncomfortable and woke from her sleep, finding her uncle on her top with her shorts unbuttoned.
The girl pushed him away and told the matter to her grandmother the next morning. Meanwhile, the man was then kicked out of the house for some time, after being confronted by the grandmother.
Another incident, took place back in 2020, after the house got fire, which led the victim and the accused to share one room for a night. While the grandmother slept in the outside shop.
The girl woke up from sleep around 2 AM after feeling something going wrong with her when she found her uncle engaging in sexual intercourse with her. The girl pushed him away, while the man pretended like to be in sleep.
The little girl didn’t sleep and sat at the corner of her bed in fear for the whole night. The next morning the girl told the matter to one of her family members and the defendant was again kicked out of the house for the second time.
The other incident occurred back in 2021 when the girl returned to the home after spending some time with her mother. Her Uncle came out of the shower and was dressed in boxers. He engaged in a general conversation with her while getting dressed.
The accused later attempted to touch her inappropriately and allegedly took out her clothes and raped her again. Afterwards, the girl told the incident to her aunt, who called her grandmother and asked him about the incident.
The grandmother then took the girl to Police Station to file a complaint. The accused was charged with practising indecent assault several times on the minor and was immediately taken into the Police custody.
